Northern California boasts some of the best wine regions in the world! From cool Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, to warm Howell Mountain Cabernet, or Anderson Valley Gewurztraminer, you’ll find every grape varietal planted in California thriving someplace here. With diverse soils, amazing microclimates, fog, sun and Mediterranean warmth, the North Bay wine regions have everything needed to make the best wine on the planet. Each wine region is broken into several sub regions (American Viticultural Areas or AVA’s) and we suggest visiting just one or maybe two different regions in a single day to keep the driving minimal. But you don’t have to do just one day, there’s plenty to explore!
Hopefully we can help plan your wine tasting vacation! We’ve got some of our favorite spots listed in each area, so check out the map and then book your wine tour. Better yet, give us a call, we’re happy to lend our advice on the area!
We can start your wine tasting tour from anyplace within the greater Bay Area, but to make the most of your wine country experience we encourage you to stayovernight in wine country, enjoy dinner at a fabulous restaurant, and take a hike or kayak the next day in the pristine wilderness.
The city of Napa and or Sonoma are roughly 60 minutes from San Francisco, while Calistoga and Healdsburg are around 90 minutes each direction. For Mendocino tours we recommend staying in Ukiah or the town of Boonville, right in the heart of the Anderson Valley.
